Science Under the Stars 2017

The Primary Area was delighted to host Science Under the Stars for the second year running.  This free festival of science, jointly funded by ESERO and Edge Hill University, brought campus alive with a range of activities, workshops and lectures about our planet.  Hundreds of visitors (trainees, teachers, staff, children and the local community) came together to celebrate and learn about planet Earth and its place in our Solar System.  Our younger visitors enjoyed making planets from play-doh and meeting a range of animals.  Other favourite activities were astronaut fitness training, the EHU planetarium, solar telescope gazing and meeting Sir Isaac Newton!

As the sun set, the crowds gathered for our finale: a Codex film created by children from St Philips C of E Primary School, Litherland and St. Peter’s C of E Primary School, Mawdesley (together with the expertise of Impossible Arts).  This magical book lit up the night sky and, as each page turned, told the story of Our Fragile Earth and how we can all help to take care of it.  Click here to experience this beautiful collaboration of science, art, photography, song and narration:  https://player.vimeo.com/video/208473442

Please note that films for Codex use a non standard resolution 1800×900 the code below keeps that aspect ratio. If the size needs to be changed, please consult http://andrew.hedges.name/experiments/aspect_ratio/
