Sjay currently teaches on the RE postgraduate course and also the RE undergraduate non-QTS programme.

Prior to Sjay’s current role, she taught on the BA (Hons) Teaching, Learning and Child Development programme with Edge Hill University. Prior to joining Edge Hill, Sjay taught RE in a variety of secondary schools in South Manchester and served as both Head of Department and Head of Faculty. Sjay acted as whole school co-ordinator for the ASDAN award and as Learning to Lead co-ordinator. Sjay contributed to the PGCE RE course at Manchester Metropolitan University and chaired the South Manchester Humanities Collaborative.

In addition to their current teaching at Edge Hill, Sjay also examines for Edexcel and AQA at GCSE level.


Sjay is currently pursuing an EdD.

Identity and agency within Initial Teacher Education.

External Collaborations/Partnership Activity:

As part of her role as PGCE course Leader, Sjay regularly worked in collaboration with our partnership schools for the delivery of external events, such as our Holocaust Study Day which is run in conjunction with the History PGCE course.


Sjay is currently involved with the Faculty of Education Athena Swan award submission.
