Programme Leader – BA (Hons) Early Years Education with QTS
Hefin joined the Primary and Early Years team in 1998. Her academic qualifications include a BA (Hons) Economics, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education specialising in Early Years and an MA Mathematics Education.
Hefin has professional experience across a range of ages. She was a Primary school teacher in Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 at schools based in inner city Cardiff and London. During this time, Hefin held a number of positions of responsibility. She was on the Senior Management Team as well as subject lead for Mathematics, Music and Design Technology.
Academically her areas of expertise are Early Years Education, Early Years and Primary mathematics and working with gifted and talented children. Hefin’s academic research develops these areas further. She has co-authored publications on mathematics homework and is currently researching gifted and talented mathematicians, mathematical anxiety and confidence in mathematics, alongside developing modules on Autistic Spectrum Condition.
Hefin has also successfully achieved the development of the Primary Mathematics Masterclasses at Edge Hill University in conjunction with the Royal Institution.
