Biography:

Tim is a qualified teacher and has both a master’s degree and doctorate in education. He worked for many years in primary schools holding senior leadership positions, including a period of headship. He is currently Assistant Head of Early Years Education having held leadership roles in university based and school-centred initial teacher education for over 17 years. His particular areas of expertise are early years education, primary education and initial teacher education. Tim is a registered OFSTED inspector working in both schools and ITE provision.

Teaching:

Tim works across all Early Years Undergraduate and Postgraduate QTS teaching routes alongside a range of Undergraduate Early Childhood Education and Early Years Foundation degree programmes.

Research:

Research interests have centred around the teaching of the arts in schools; in art, working in close collaboration with local artists to provide students with ‘expert’ knowledge, in music; fostering composition activity in the primary school and early years settings. Tim also has a keen interest in Scandinavian Education Systems – the subject of his Doctoral thesis. Most recently he has been involved in research relating to the impact of a study visit to Sweden with academic members of the Early Years Department, the roles of men in Early Years Education and Forest School Provision.
