This year’s Black History Month events, workshops, exhibitions and resources aim to enhance awareness, champion equality, diversity and inclusion, highlight support and to celebrate Black joy and achievements.
Here at Edge Hill University we’re celebrating Black History Month 2023 with a wide range of activity. Things kick off with a celebration event on Tuesday 3 October 2023, featuring delicious authentic African and Caribbean food, performances and an exhibition launch. This is followed by riveting talks and performances from acclaimed writer Ashleigh Nugent (Thursday 5 October), pioneering activist Chantelle Lunt (Thursday 12 October) and more to be announced shortly.
Events
Keep a look out for events at Edge Hill University for Black History Month 2023. There’s plenty of exciting things happening.
Black History Month at Edge Hill is about showing people they belong, they are accepted here, to show people they can say, ‘this is my home, Edge Hill is my place, I matter’.
When I heard that Edge Hill was planning a whole series of events for Black History Month it was a really heartfelt moment. It’s amazing to know there are members of staff who care about us, not just because they have to but because they genuinely want us to feel at home. By running events like this they are advocating for us, they’re fighting our corner.
I’m incredibly grateful I chose Edge Hill University. I was really nervous when I got here because there weren’t as many international students. But Edge Hill went to a lot of effort to make sure we found each other, found our people, as well as making sure we blended with the local students here.
There are a wide range of books available that focus on the themes of Black History. Staff have put together a reading list including fiction and non-fiction books which are available to read online or can be downloaded. You will also find here a list of recommended websites, films, TV and Radio.
