Varsity 2020 Statement from Edge Hill University and UCLan Students’ Union
Following the current advice from Public Health England (PHE) and Edge Hill University Senior Management surrounding the COVID-19 virus, both Edge Hill University and UCLan Students’ Union have jointly made the difficult decision to cancel the annual Varsity event on Wednesday 25th March. We are naturally disappointed that we are having to cancel Varsity this year but as the health and wellbeing of our students and staff is always the number one priority for Edge Hill and UCLan Students’ Union, we felt that this was the best course of action during such an unprecedented situation.
We are grateful to our sport clubs, staff and students for all their cooperation and understanding at this time.

Every year, Edge Hill University and University of Central Lancashire sports teams compete in an Annual Varsity competition. Varsity is one eagerly awaited massive day of sport with fixtures including Football, Hockey, Rugby, Basketball and Netball. Each fixture contributes towards the Varsity total with the University with the most points taking home the trophy.
The 2019 version saw UCLan win back the trophy after 3 consecutive victories by Edge Hill.
