Turing Scheme summer opportunities

Summer programmes can be a totally different experience compared to normal university life. By participating in a summer programme you’ll be taking the 1st step on an exciting journey that will be an amazing educational, cultural and personal experience. The summer programmes here at Edge Hill University are ever-expanding and invite you to become part of a special group of students who have represented the University at many partner universities in many countries across the world.

For summer 2022 we have some fantastic opportunities of between two and five weeks for you to expand your language skills, embrace different cultures and heritage, or learn about business and economics overseas.

University of Paul Valery Montpellier – France

Two-week opportunity from 24 June to 8 July 2022

The University of Paul Valery summer courses aim to combine French language classes and the discovery of Montpellier’s culture and area during the summer. Between class and field trips, you will benefit from all the university facilities. Field trips are planned for each session (wine heritage, olive grove, tour of Nîme).

Eligibility: No eligibility criteria other than being a non-French native and over 18 years of age.

Cost: Accommodation costs £320 food and spending money. A grant of between £240 and £295 will be available for students through the Turing Scheme. Flight costs will be covered either by Edge Hill University or the Turing Scheme depending on student circumstances.

University of Jaen – Spain

Four-week opportunity from 13 June to 8 July 2022

The course on Spanish language and culture offered by the Centre for Higher Studies in Modern Languages at the Universidad de Jaén (UJA) is a linguistic and cultural immersion program specifically designed for Edge Hill University students. The main objective of this course is to help Edge Hill University students develop their communicative competencies through immersion. Thanks to the course, students will obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate with other speakers of Spanish both in everyday situations and in social or academic contexts. Eligibility: No eligibility criteria other than being a non-Spanish native and over 18 years of age.

Cost: Accommodation costs £610 + food and spending money. A grant of between £480 and £590 will be available for students through the Turing Scheme. Flight costs will be covered either by Edge Hill University or the Turing Scheme depending on student circumstances.

University of Madrid – Spain

Four-week opportunity from 27 June to 22 July 2022

Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM)’s Summer School of Economics and Business (SSEB) is a unique opportunity to broaden your horizons in one of the most beautiful and liveliest cities in the world while studying at a top university. There are four ‘tracks’ to choose from including Environmental Economics & Policy Analysis, Global Marketing, International Finance or Doing Business in Spain. Eligibility: To apply you need to be an undergraduate student or graduate in Economics or Business, and you have an appropriate level of English (we recommend a B2 level)

Cost: Accommodation costs £500 + food and spending money. A grant of between £480 and £590 will be available for students through the Turing Scheme. Flight costs will be covered either by Edge Hill University or the Turing Scheme depending on student circumstances.

University Tec de Monterrey – Mexico

Five-week opportunity from 27 June to 29 July 2022

This program is designed for students who love travelling and learning about new cultures. Following an itinerant schedule visiting Mexico City, Puebla, Guadalajara, and Queretaro. There are two courses to choose from, Regional Economics or Mexican Culture & Heritage

Eligibility: No prior subject knowledge is necessary. Must be over 18 years of age.

Cost: Accommodation £800 + food and spending money. A grant of between £600 and £735 will be available for students through the Turing Scheme. Flight costs will be covered either by Edge Hill University or the Turing Scheme depending on student circumstances.

Eligibility criteria

Any Edge Hill University student over the age of 18 can apply for any of these opportunities. Prior subject knowledge or of the local language is not necessarily a requirement. Please see the individual eligibility criteria under the Opportunities Accepting NOW! sub-menu.

The level of funding support you could qualify for from the Turing Scheme may vary depending on your individual circumstances.

Financing

The majority of costs for each opportunity will be covered by Edge Hill University through the Student Opportunity Fund. We want to keep the costs for students as low as possible, to make sure these opportunities are open to everyone.

The tuition fee for the programmes as well as the flight costs will be covered for you. What’s even better is that all the programmes on offer are supported financially by the Turing Scheme, meaning you will receive a grant of between £120 and £147 per week to support your living costs while away!
