Teacher education and training courses
The Language Centre offers teacher education and training courses during the summer period. These are bespoke courses for teachers of English language to students whose first language is not English. We can also offer courses for teachers of other subjects who use English as the main medium of instruction when teaching. Courses are designed based on your needs.
Course components
Although the teacher education and training courses are designed on a needs basis, the three core components of the course are:
- Advanced English Language Development
- Aspects of Teaching and Learning
- Aspects of British Culture

Activities
A range of activities can be arranged (as per your requirements). These may include trips to local sites of cultural and historical significance such as:
- the nearby world-famous cities of Liverpool and Manchester
- the beautiful and historic cities of Chester and York
- Tudor manor houses and medieval castles
- the Lake District
Course duration and dates
The teacher education and training course is available during the summer period, typically for a duration of 1-4 weeks. As this is a bespoke course other course lengths can be considered and are subject to agreement between the Language Centre and the group.
Course hours
The number of hours studied per week varies depending on course content. This is subject to negotiation between the Language Centre and the group.
Class size
The maximum size is 16 students. If you want 30 students to come, we will split the group to make two smaller groups, but we will not exceed 16 students in any group.
Course fees
The Teacher Education and Training Course is a bespoke programme. As such, the cost depends on the kinds of things you want in your course package. Please email [email protected] in the first instance and the Language Centre will explore your needs and discuss the course with you.
Entry requirements
This course is only open to groups of teachers and not to individuals. To join the course all members of the group must be 18+ at the beginning of the course and have a similar level of English proficiency (ideally no lower than IELTS 6.5 or equivalent). As this course is specifically aimed at teachers, all members of the group must have some prior teaching experience.
