Language and culture classes for refugees

The Language Centre is offering two hours of free English language and culture classes per week.

These classes aim to help participants to communicate effectively and confidently in day-to-day activities such as going to the supermarket, visiting the doctor and taking public transport. Classes will also introduce aspects of British society, drawing on national and regional news and events. Content will be tailored to the language level, interests and communicative needs of participants.

The course runs every Tuesday from 10am – 12pm.

Classes will be taught in English and language learners of all levels are welcome.

Eligibility

These classes are specifically aimed at people with refugee status. You will be asked to provide evidence of this when applying for a place in the class.

There is no English language requirement for these classes, but any indication of English level (for example an IELTS certificate) that you can provide would be beneficial to our Language Centre staff.

Fees

The Language and Culture Classes for Refugees classes are free to anyone who can prove their status as a refugee.

We do not provide accommodation or transport as part of this service.
