Pathway and foundation
The Language Centre offers pathway and foundation programmes for students needing extra support before joining their main courses.
If you are an international students wishing to study at Edge Hill University but you do not have the English language requirements for your chosen degree programme, a Pre-Sessional Course may be appropriate in helping you achieve the level you need.
We offer courses of 6 and 11 weeks, the length of the course you study on will depend on your current English language level, and the level required for the degree programme you are applying to.Discover more

The International Foundation Programme has been specifically developed for international students who want to study for an undergraduate degree but do not possess British A-Level qualifications (Year 13) or equivalent or who need to improve their English language proficiency.Discover more
STEM Foundation Year
The STEM Foundation Year provides the opportunity to study an integrated four year programme where you will complete a Foundation Year before progressing onto a degree in biology, computer science, computer engineering, or geography and geology, subject to passing all assessments.Discover more
Fastrack: Preparation for higher education
Fastrack is an intensive, seven-week preparation for higher education programme for adults. Comprising of one week of preparation and six weeks of full-time study, it is designed to enhance your subject knowledge, introducing you to key elements in your chosen degree subject. English language courses
Please note that the Language Centre can only accept international students over the age of 18 years.
Language and culture classes for refugees
The Language Centre is offering two hours of free English language classes per week.
These classes aim to help participants to communicate effectively and confidently in day-to-day activities such as going to the supermarket, visiting the doctor and taking public transport. Classes will also introduce aspects of British society, drawing on national and regional news and events. Content will be tailored to the language level, interests and communicative needs of participants.
The course runs every Tuesday from 10am – 12pm. Classes will be taught in English and language learners of all levels are welcome.
These classes are specifically aimed at people with refugee status. You will be asked to provide evidence of this when applying for a place in the class. There is no English language requirement for these classes, but any indication of English level (for example an IELTS certificate) that you can provide would be beneficial to our Language Centre staff.
The Language and culture classes for refugees are free to anyone who can prove their status as a refugee.
