Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs)
The Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) within the Faculty of Education are involved in the teaching and assessment of both undergraduate and Masters students, delivering up to six hours of teaching per week. All GTAs are members of the University Graduate School. GTAs are often paired with their research interests and expertise, and, deliver teaching where it is felt they can provide unique knowledge and expertise.
The Faculty’s GTAs are registered to complete a full time PhD, are also registered as part-time members of staff, appointed for three years. GTAs are provided with support from the module leader and subject specialists, who endeavour to provide support with teaching responsibilities, ensuring that their PhD studies are manageable alongside this. Many of our GTAs are also enrolled on the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (PGCTHE). The PGCTHE is a Higher Education Academy (HEA) accredited programme which provides an opportunity for staff involved in teaching and learning to improve their professional practice and therefore their own students’ learning.
GTAs will work under the supervision of an academic member of staff and are expected to maintain the same standards of professional ethics appropriate for any other member of academic staff.
