Talk 4 Number equips teaching assistants with the strategies to help pupils find their mathematical voice and express their mathematical ideas.

Our Talk 4 Number mathematics intervention programme
- A trained teaching assistant delivers 24, 30 minute sessions to a group of 4 pupils about 3 times a week for 8 weeks
- Sessions help pupils to understand and talk confidently about numbers and calculations in a wide range of contexts and to strengthen their reflective and metacognitive skills
- The programme is delivered outside the classroom daily mathematics lessons
- Training runs alongside the implementation of the teaching programme so that the teaching assistant is trained topic by topic
- The teaching assistant is supported by a Link Teacher within the school.
Our Talk 4 Number intervention programme aims to:
- help pupils to talk confidently about number
- build mathematical language, understanding and enjoyment
- develop a wide range of mathematical talk – explaining, instructing, presenting…
- develop speaking and listening skills in number contexts
- strengthen reflection and metacognition
- extend teaching assistants’ subject knowledge and expertise
- support mathematical talk throughout the school.
