The film and TV industry is booming and there’s a huge nationwide demand for crew, particularly in the location department. If you’d like to learn what’s involved in being a LOCATION ASSISTANT, there’s no better time to find out more. This location assistant workshop will be taught by location managers Claire and Faye Newton, who are industry professionals and co-founders of www.liverpoollocations.com. Between them they’ve over 42 years’ experience in the industry, working with global clients such as Disney, Warner Brothers, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and HBO.

In today’s creative industries, many producers will work on projects incorporating digital media, online and live streaming, as well as traditional filming formats. Andrew Fenner is one such producer. He’s worked across multiple platforms for companies including the BBC, ITV Avanti and ITN. In this interactive workshop learn how to approach this exciting new hybrid career path.

Did you know that 90%+ employers use LinkedIn for job posting and/or candidate screening? Furthermore, all LinkedIn job posts assess the profile (NOT the CV) initially to determine suitability. In this workshop you’ll be given detailed instruction on how to properly optimise a LinkedIn Profile, and how to gain access to the “Hidden Job Market”.

This session will give you hints and tips on where to search online, and how to use job boards in the best way possible via a live demonstration. You’ll also be introduced to a job application tracker tool and Boolean searching which will get you the job search results you want, fast! There’ll also be links available after the session which will outline some of the places you can find roles within the industry.


Grierson Awards 2021_photoThe Grierson Trust

In this session find out about the Grierson DocLab which aims to equip trainees aged 18-25, from backgrounds that are under-represented in the industry, with the skills and networks to pursue a career in the UK’s factual TV and documentary industry.   The scheme involves a hybrid training course (5 days online, 3 days in-person), a bursary-supported placement (ranging from 2-4 weeks in length), with a leading UK production company, mentoring and networking opportunities, an industry delegate pass to Sheffield Documentary Festival, plus a ticket to attend the Grierson Awards ceremony in central London. Our scheme also offers successful candidates access to, and membership of, the Grierson DocLab Alumni network and bespoke ongoing support to help career progression within the sector. All costs to participate will be met by the Trust.

In this session Jane Zurakowski, Talent Exec, Production Management BBC Studios Bristol NHU and Unscripted, and Lorraine Heaton, Senior Resourcing & Talent Production Management BBC Studios, will offer an overview of what the NHU and unscripted departments are looking for in entry-level applications, as well as discussing the exciting role of the television production manager.
