In Depth
What will I study?
If you have a degree in Religious Education or a related subject, or a degree which contains a small amount of religious or theological study alongside other subjects, and you wish to train as a Religious Education teacher, then you may be able to enrol on this course.
The course could also be suitable if you have a Religious Studies or Theology degree but only specialised in a handful of faiths.
The course is designed to achieve the following:
- Address gaps in your subject knowledge;
- Inspire you to promote learning in religious education that is challenging and engaging for all students;
- Identify and build upon your prior learning, and develop your capacity for future self-study;
- Enable you to recognise links with the wider world and context in which religious education operates;
- Develop your ability to support learners’ understanding of the rich narrative of religious education.
How will I study?
The course is delivered for one day a week over an eight week period. The sessions will typically run from 10am to 4pm each day and be a mixture of face-to-face teaching and visits to places of worship across the North West. Return transport from the Edge Hill University campus to the places of worship will be provided.
How will I be assessed?
There are no formal examinations. You will need to complete a subject knowledge audit and an independent learning log which will demonstrate how your knowledge and understanding of the subject content has developed. You will be given guidance on how to do this in the initial session.
