How can businesses be run more efficiently and be more profitable? Join us to discover how businesses are built, nurtured and sold. On this course, you’ll explore the fundamentals of business and management while examining how accounting and finance plays a key part in success.

During this BSc (Hons) Business & Management with Accounting & Finance degree, we’ll give you the skills needed to structure businesses financially. Explore business law, ethics, marketing and economics to develop a strong understanding of modern business. You’ll learn how markets move and companies grow. We’ll expose the complex environments where today’s start-ups are put to the test.

You’ll develop an advanced understanding of how organisations operate locally and globally. You’ll also have the opportunity to start your own business, or work on live client projects. Here you’ll be able to analyse the diverse issues facing the organisations of today.

When you graduate you’ll be eligible for Affiliate Member status with the Chartered Management Institute.

What you'll study

During Year 1 you’ll begin to explore the fundamentals of business and management. You’ll dive into business economics and explore marketing practices for business. We’ll also look at how businesses are structured, and the vital role of management accounting. You’ll learn how to adjust accounts for accruals, bad debts, and VAT. Choose a module in subjects like business start-up, digital marketing, or statistics for economics.

In second year, you’ll develop skills in managing the human resource, and explore research methods for tackling business issues. You’ll see how management accounting can be used to make decisions and strategise for growth. Take a work placement, or work on launching and running your own small business enterprise. You’ll also be able to choose an optional module. This could be Branding, Consumer Behaviour, Finance and Performance Management, or Intermediate Economic Analysis.

You’ll refine your advanced accounting and analysis skills in Year 3, producing complex company accounts that comply with International Financial Reporting Standards (FIRS). You’ll explore strategic management and the various factors influencing decision-making. You’ll also study deeper in a subject of your choice. This could be in business strategy and digital goods, auditing, sustainability in business, or taxation. You’ll also complete a dissertation, or work on an extended business project for a sponsoring organisation.

Where your course includes optional modules, these are to provide an element of choice within the course curriculum. The availability of optional modules may vary from year to year and will be subject to minimum student numbers being achieved. This means that the availability of specific optional modules cannot be guaranteed. Optional module selection may also be affected by timetabling requirements. Some restrictions on optional module choice or combinations of optional modules may apply.

How you'll study

As well as preparing for and attending lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops, you will spend time reading and completing coursework, including written assignments, presentations and posters.

You will have the opportunity to develop your employability profile through a work placement or participation in a graduate enterprise project. In addition, you will undertake live client projects with organisations or work on agreed projects with real outcomes and impact.

Timetables for your first week are normally available at the end of August prior to enrolment in September. You can expect to receive your timetable for the rest of the academic year during your first week. Please note that while we make every effort to ensure that timetables are as student-friendly as possible, scheduled teaching can take place on any day of the week. Wednesday afternoons are normally reserved for sports and cultural activities.

How you'll be assessed

Throughout the programme, there is a combination of different forms of assessment to test intellectual development, vocational capability and critical thinking. Coursework involves individual and group-based activities, case studies and problem-solving exercises. Examinations take a variety of forms, using both seen and unseen questions.

Typical offer 104-112 UCAS Tariff points. No specific subjects are required.

T Level Overall grade of Merit.
International Baccalaureate (IB) We are happy to accept IB qualifications which achieve the required number of UCAS Tariff points.
Access to Higher Education Diploma 45 credits at Level 3, for example 9 credits at Distinction and 36 credits at Merit or 15 credits at Distinction and 30 credits at Merit. The required total can be attained from various credit combinations.

Please note, the above examples may differ from actual offers made. A combination of A Level and BTEC awards may also be accepted.

If you have a minimum of two A Levels (or equivalent), there is no maximum number of qualifications that we will accept UCAS points from. This includes additional qualifications such as Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), AS Levels that haven't been continued to A Level, and General Studies AS or A Level awards.

English language requirements

International students require IELTS 6.0, with a score no lower than 5.5 in each individual component, or an equivalent English language qualification.

If your current level of English is half a band, one band, or one-and-a-half bands lower, either overall or in one or two elements, you may want to consider our Pre-Sessional English course.

Applying for a graduate role isn’t your only option though. You could stay at Edge Hill to complete postgraduate study.

On this course you will gain affiliate membership of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), a globally recognised professional body, for the duration of your degree and one year after graduation.

On successful completion of your degree, you will also be awarded a CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership and may also be eligible for exemptions from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
