How do you launch a management career? What’s the best way to build a team or grow a business? Our Postgraduate Certificate in Business and Management gives you the confidence to lead, supported by essential theories, skills and knowledge.

Getting a grip on business strategy is essential for management success. You’ll learn how to analyse the internal, external and international business environment. You’ll study key business theory and we’ll share methods to boost your skills in making decisions and setting objectives.

The best leaders are inspirational. We’ll help you develop strong personal leadership skills. We’ll show you how to manage projects, motivate teams, and make crucial decisions. You’ll also be able to add a module in people management or business operational management.

You’ll leave us with an impressive set of transferable management skills ready to kickstart a management career in your field or make the jump into a new area.

What you'll study

Study the factors and forces that affect business today. You’ll analyse how business plans are impacted by customers, competitors, suppliers, and the government. You’ll also consider the way society, culture, politics, the law and even technology could affect your decisions.

You’ll develop an advanced understanding of strategic management techniques. Explore everything from internal auditing and marketing strategies to product development and corporate governance.

Add one of two optional modules. You could learn how to lead, manage and develop people in today’s digital society. Alternatively, you could look at the way effective operations and project management adds value to the customer experience.

Where your course includes optional modules, these are to provide an element of choice within the course curriculum. The availability of optional modules may vary from year to year and will be subject to minimum student numbers being achieved. This means that the availability of specific optional modules cannot be guaranteed. Optional module selection may also be affected by timetabling requirements. Some restrictions on optional module choice or combinations of optional modules may apply.

How you'll study

The programme will be delivered across the autumn and spring semesters using a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical classes and workshops, alongside extensive online activities and guided independent study.

Face-to-face classes will typically take place in three-hour blocks in the afternoon and/or evening for three or six hours per week. You will be encouraged to apply your theoretical learning to real-life organisations.

You can expect to receive your timetable at enrolment. Please note that while we make every effort to ensure that timetables are as student-friendly as possible, scheduled teaching can take place on any day or evening of the week.

How you'll be assessed

The programme combines several different forms of assessment to test intellectual development, vocational capability and critical thinking. Coursework often involves both individual and group-based tasks. Case studies and problem-solving exercises are used, requiring the completion of a variety of written tasks, reports and project work.

Entry criteria

Entry requirements

You should have a degree equivalent to UK first-class or second-class honours (2:2 or above) in a subject other than business and management.

You may also be able to join the programme without a degree, subject to an interview, if you have appropriate professional qualifications or experience.

English language requirements

While international students who are not resident and working in the UK cannot currently join this course, if you are working and resident in the UK but your first language is not English, you will need IELTS 6.5 overall, with a score no lower than 6.0 in each individual component, or an equivalent English language qualification.

Edge Hill Business School.A stunning £8m building provides state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities for students in Edge Hill Business School.

The three-storey building offers a 100-seat lecture theatre and modern seminar and meeting rooms. There are also social learning areas which encourage a more informal and interactive style of learning, in addition to an attractive roof garden and atrium.
