The devices requirements for HSK Home Test

Please check whether the computer, the operating system software and the network meet the requirements of the HOME Test before you register online. If not, please don’t register.

  1. Computer: the operating system installed on your computer or laptop must be Windows 7 or Windows 10. The recommended screen resolution is 1440*900 or more (at least 1366*768).
  2. Network: please download the HSK test client to test the Internet speed. Please do not register if the internet speed is less than 150KB/s. Download link: https://test.chinesetest.cn:36165/client.html
  3. Camera: The room that you are planning to take the test must be light enough to make sure the camera is clear.
    1. The camera needs to be independent of your computer, for example on a mobile phone, and must be high-definition (no less than 300,000 pixels).
    2. Please download ZOOM Meeting APP to a smart mobile phone with a camera and make sure it works correctly.
  4. Enter the ZOOM Meeting room 1 hour before the start time of the test. Place your mobile phone 1 (one) meter behind the left or right of your seat. The mobile phone’s position needs to be good for the invigilator to see the computer screen and the examinee.
  5. The invigilator will check the room that you are planning to take the test and make sure it is clear in all spaces.
  6. The invigilator will check your ID that was used when you registered online so you need to have this present.
  7. You have to connect your mobile phone to the WIFI and turn on the “airplane mode”.
  8. You must make sure your mobile phone has sufficient power to keep working during the test. It is not acceptable if the mobile phone shuts down accidentally for any reason.
  9. You must have a good headset or earphones without any noise.
  10. You must make sure that you finish the test independently in a safe and closed room without any interference.

Public places such as Internet bars, cafes and restaurants are not accepted to be a test room.

The Computer, keyboard and mouse must all be placed together on the desk/workspace where the exam will be taken so they are visible to the camera.

Please make sure no one enters into your test room before you finish.

Please make sure there are no materials such as books or dictionaries present in the test room.

The test will be invalid if you violate any of these rules.

Notes:

  1. The Writing Part of the test must be typed in Chinese with the Chinese Pinyin.
  2. No pieces of paper are allowed during the test.
  3. No electronic devices are allowed during the test.
  4. It is prohibited to copy or record the test questions and themes.

In order to ensure the operations safety of the online test, the Chinese Testing International (CTI) or third-part Chinese testing centres may collect some test-related information from you, including but not limited to your name, photo, ID and the monitoring audio and video records during the test, etc. We will only collect and use these kind of personal information under the law and for the legal business purpose of the Chinese Test International (CTI)(such as maintaining the test security).

 

If you are interested in sitting the text you will need to email confuciusinstitute@edgehill.ac.uk by 9th November who will then send you the link to register.

 

HSK Qualifications

We are a HSK testing centre for levels 1 –  4 Mandarin qualifications.

All other exams have been postponed until further notice.

 

Registration

The deadline for each HSK examination is one month before the exam date. Applications received after the deadline will not be processed. As places are limited, early registration is recommended. The precise test time and venue will be confirmed by email at a later date once you have registered with Hanban.

To register to take a test:

  1. Click on the following link which will take you to the registration page of the Hanban Chinese Test website: http://www.chinesetest.cn/gosign.do?id=2&lid=826486
  2. Please click the link to register as a new user and complete your details as required.
  3. The next step is to click on ‘Test Registration’ button in the menu that runs along the top of the page.
  4. Next, click the button for your ‘HSK Level ’ and then click the blue ‘Register’ button.
  5. Complete your details as requested.

Once Hanban have confirmed registration, an email from the Confucius Institute will be sent with a payment link.  To pay for a test (whether your are on an Edge Hill course or an external candidate) you will need to go through this link ‘EHU Online Payment Facility‘.

YCT Qualifications

 

All exams have been postponed until further notice.

The YCT is an international standardised test of Chinese language proficiency. It assesses young  students’ abilities to use Chinese in their daily and academic lives.

The new YCT consists of a writing test and a speaking test, which are independent of each other. The writing test is divided into four levels, namely, the YCT (level I), YCT (level II), YCT (level III), and YCT (level IV). The speaking test is divided into the YCT (Beginner Level) and YCT (Intermediate Level).

The YCT (Level I) is intended for young students who have studied Chinese for three months, with 2-3 class hours per week. These students have mastered 80 commonly used words and related grammar patterns.

Registration
