Short placements

Summer placements

…[the student] had the experience we were looking for; was friendly, cooperative and enthusiastic. I have been impressed by the level of organisation, the standards set and the facilities offered [by the department].”

Phil Taylor, Director, IT Managed Services

As part of all Masters Level courses within Edge Hill University students are strongly encouraged to complete a short work placement which sees them take their knowledge and skills into a business for mutual benefit. Each year many organisations benefit from taking one of our Masters students on a placement to either complete a short project or assist operationally.

The placement forms part of our Work Related Learning module which addresses relevant issues of employability, professional practice and ethics, and students must complete a minimum of 20 days during the period between May and September.

In previous years, businesses have offered placements to Computing students to get involved in:

  • Software and database development
  • Network installations and support
  • Information security audits
  • Project administration/management
  • Digital marketing

…[student’s name] is great – thank you for your recommendation.  Her attitute to work has been exemplary, she is keen to learn and is a pleasure to have in the office.”

Dave McTague, Director, Another Media

To discuss offering a short placement please contact our Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise Co-ordinator, Helen Walters, on 01695 657288 or Helen.walters@edgehill.ac.uk
