Edge Hill academics and Business Insight 3 collaborate on security software solutions

Academic business insights

Academics from Edge Hill’s Computer Science Department successfully completed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the security and retail hardware and software solutions company, Business Insight 3 (Bi3).

Bi3 work with a range of hardware devices using the latest technologies, such as facial recognition, video analytics and demographic analysis, allowing retailers to access accurate information about in-store customer experiences. The KTP project was designed to improve the quality of customer data generated by store security sensor devices.

Edge Hill’s Computer Programming graduate Joe Bolton was employed as a KTP Associate Software Developer and continues to work for Bi3 following the successful completion of the project. The KTP produced demonstrable impact for both partners, with Bi3 gaining a new product and Edge Hill academics producing three conference papers and a journal article. The highly successful partnership led Innovate UK to rate the KTP as outstanding.

“Edge Hill academics where given an opportunity to apply their knowledge and expertise to a real world problem and observe tangible results of their research activities.”
