BSc (Hons) Web Systems Development, 2017
A summer internship with e-commerce company The Hut Group not only expanded Jacob Cleaver’s technical skills and exposed him to new programming languages, it also helped him step straight into employment after graduation.
During his five-month placement, Jacob worked on several projects to support the efficiency of The Hut Group’s websites. As a Front-End Developer, he was responsible for creating a dashboard that displayed the status of each website. This allows teams to react quickly to cyber attacks or traffic overload, helping to reduce unnecessary downtime that could cost sales. Jacob also streamlined the various blog sites by allowing each component of a blog to be styled individually while ensuring they all followed the same structure, meaning that the creation of wire-framing and websites was much more efficient. Following positive feedback from The Hut Group’s Chief Technology Officer, Jacob was offered a full-time job with the company on graduation.
“The placement with The Hut Group allowed me to gain a good understanding of how the industry works and to further understand my course, having seen the theory learnt in my degree put into action in the real world.”
