The word ‘internships’ is used in different ways:
- A summer vacation placement lasting for anything from 2 weeks to 3 months.
- A year-long placement typically undertaken between your second and third year of study.
These internships are usually paid, and give both you and the employer a chance to see whether you are suited to the work. Large graduate employers may fill their vacancies with previous interns rather than advertising them to everyone.
Some students choose to find a summer internship abroad.
