Our Careers Employer Liaison Team  provide a high quality responsive service and is committed to ensuring that our students and graduates possess the skills and knowledge that your organisation requires.

Careers has developed excellent relationships with a range of employers. There are many ways to get involved, from attending careers fairs or delivering bespoke workshops to offering work placements.

Barclays

Barclays Bank:

  • deliver curricular presentations about careers within the financial/banking sector
  • assess second year student presentations as part of the Edge Hill Employability Programme
  • are part of the Business Employer Advisory Panel (EAP). The EAP offers a forum for employers to meet with staff and students to enhance communication and exchange, and to initiate partnership projects

Barclays RBB Technology:

  • are part of the Computing Business Employer Advisory Panel.
  • delivered workshops on interview techniques as part of the inaugural Computing Employability Conference
  • deliver weekly curricular sessions on computing careers within the financial sector
  • operate the Technology Challenge in which teams of university students were tasked with developing a prototype application

DLA Piper, Global Law Firm

DLA Piper have been working with Edge Hill’s law department for a number of years

  • delivering curricular presentations about careers within law and the training process
  • providing mock interviews for students applying for training contracts
  • inviting students to a law networking evening
  • being part of the Law Employer Advisory Panel (EAP). The EAP offers a forum for employers to meet with staff and students to enhance communication and exchange, and to initiate partnership projects

Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Enterprise Rent-A-Car (ERAC) have a long standing award winning partnership [1] with Edge Hill and are widely integrated within the University.

Edge Hill business management student Liam, representing his part-time employer ERAC at our part-time jobs fair.

ERAC LiamERAC’s activities with Edge Hill include:

  • providing part-time employment for our students
  • employing a number of Edge Hill graduates each year
  • recruiting Edge Hill students on 3 month summer internships and year-long sandwich placements
  • being part of the Business Employer Advisory Panel (EAP). The EAP offers a forum for employers to meet with staff and students to enhance communication and exchange, and to initiate partnership projects
  • co-delivering curricular employability modules within departments e.g Sports, Geography, Social Sciences and Business
  • co-delivering the Edge Hill Employability Programme and assessing second year student presentations as part of this
  • held a Leadership Day for students from north-west universities
  • regularly attending graduate recruitment and careers fairs at the University

Fairbanks

Fairbanks are data management specialists based in Skelmersdale. They work with the University in a range of ways:

  • Fairbanksrecruiting 15 Edge Hill graduates in the last 2 years
  • delivering curricular presentations to geography students about careers within wetstock and hazardous materials management
  • regularly attending our graduate recruitment and careers fairs
  • being part of the Geography Employer Advisory Panel (EAP). The EAP offers a forum for employers to meet with staff and students to enhance communication and exchange, and to initiate partnership projects
  • setting up a knowledge transfer partnership (KTP)  with the University. This is a business-university collaboration aimed at improving competitiveness, productivity and performance of the business by using University expertise

Matalan

The Matalan Head Office is located in Knowsley. Matalan are involved in a range of University activities including:

  • Matalan Awardrecruiting graduates to work in functions including marketing, HR, merchandising and finance
  • offering work experience placements
  • delivering workshops and presentations to Business School students
  • regularly attending graduate recruitment and careers fairs at the University
  • assessing second year student presentations as part of the Edge Hill Employability Programme
  • sitting on both the Finance and Accountancy Employer Advisory Panel (EAP) and the Business EAP. The EAPs offer a forum for employers to meet with staff and students to enhance communication and exchange, and to initiate partnership projects

Matalan’s contribution to developing students’ employability has been recognised with a Graduate Employer Award presented by University Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof Bill Bruce at our annual Celebration of Achievement.

NHS

Reflecting the diversity of careers within the NHS, the organisation is involved in a number of ways:

NHS health

  • regularly attending graduate recruitment and careers fairs at Edge Hill including our specialist Health and Social Care fair
  • delivering curricular presentations about careers within the public sector finance
  • assessing second year student presentations as part of the Edge Hill Employability Programme
  • providing work experience placements for business/accountancy students
  • being part of Finance and Accountancy Employer Advisory Panel (EAP). The EAP offers a forum for employers to meet with staff and students to enhance communication and exchange, and to initiate partnership projects

Plastersine

Plastersine is a performing arts company working with young people in local West Lancashire communities. Their involvement with Edge Hill includes:

  • regularly attending recruitment and careers fairs at the University
  • offering volunteering opportunities, some of which lead to paid work
  • offering work placement opportunities as part of degree programmes e.g. for Performing Arts, Creative Writing and Media students, leading one student to comment:
    Working with Plastersine is helping me to achieve my ambition of becoming an actor trainer. This experience is invaluable for my ambitions and complements my University course in gaining the experience and knowledge needed to follow this dream”.

West Lancs Ranger Service

West Lancs Ranger Service carries out conservation and maintenance of countryside parks in addition to developing environmental projects, and organising events and activities.
Their involvement with the University includes:

  • West Lancs Rangers (4)delivering presentations to geography and biology students e.g. on careers within conservation
  • recruiting our students as volunteers at fortnightly conservation events in Coronation Park, Ormskirk
  • regularly attending volunteering and part-time jobs fairs at the University
  • organising joint activities in local areas e.g. Ruff Woods and Beacon Country Park.
