BA (Hons) Marketing and Advertising, 2017
Studying for a degree while being the MD of a company can be stressful, but for Dominic Bird the lessons he’s learned and the confidence he has gained are invaluable to his future career.
Dominic developed the idea for Wet Fish, a social card game, as part of the Graduate Enterprise Scheme and went on to reach the 2016 National Start-Up Finals, where the business attracted funding from Old Mutual Wealth. Dominic feels that the Wet Fish project has enabled him to acquire a ‘real’ sense of business and he has been able to apply aspects of his degree to solving practical problems and developing the business. The experience has also given him a strong network of contacts that he hopes will help him get a foot on the entrepreneurial ladder in the future.
“Working for your own business means you’re responsible for your own deadlines and time management. I’ve learned how to prioritise my time to allow me to keep the business growing, while still focusing on my degree.”
