As part of its engagement activities across the North-West, members of the Business School spoke at the Wigan Business Expo on Friday 11th October at the DW Stadium. The Expo has grown to become one of the biggest business events in the North West. More than 140 companies exhibited at the event with more than one thousand delegates through the doors. It has proved one of the most effective networking opportunities for north-west businesses. As the main sponsor of the Expo, the University ran seminars that cover topics such as the benefits of student placements, financial management and how Knowledge Transfer Partnerships can increase revenue.
Dr. Charles Knight who runs the Competitive Edge research cluster within the school and spoke about how to use social media to win new business explained: “Central to the ethos of the school is getting out into the business community and engaging. Talking to business owners is the best and most rapid feedback of what is happening in the economy”.
The Business School’s work is backed by a wider employer engagement project designed to create collaborative partnerships between the University and employers on workforce development initiatives. In particular, the University will work with employers to develop training and education packages specifically designed to enhance the capacity of their employees.
