This weekend, staff and students of the Biology and Geography departments at Edge Hill University joined forces with pond researcher Helen Greaves, to restore a local overgrown farmland pond in Halsall. Initially started as part of the British Ecological Society funded ‘Great Twin Pond Dig’ this is the third consecutive year that the pond restoration weekend has taken place and it did not disappoint!

This year’s restrorations are part of a larger national project, the #BIG50, which aims to restore 50 overgrown ponds in the countryside this Autumn.

Working with brilliant local farmers, like Chris Molyneux, of Molyneax Kale means that we can bring wildlife back to the farmland, even in areas of intensive agriculture.
