A major challenge of applied ecological research is dissemination to conservation practitioners. In order to maximise the impact of research and to ensure current conservation issues are highlighted for potential research it is important for scientists and practitioners to work together. The Grassland Conservation Conference aims to provide a platform for the development of collaboration and knowledge exchange between scientists and practitioners.
The Key Note Speaker is Dr Richard Jefferson, who has over 25 years experience working for Natural England as a Senior Grassland Specialist. Richard’s lecture Evidence to Advice: How research-practitioner partnerships can support successful grassland conservation will open proceedings and is sure to stimulate discussion.
The first day of the conference will feature oral presentations from academics, conservation practitioners and policy makers and a poster session sponsored by the George Stapledon Memorial Trust.
The second day of the conference will be a series of parallel workshops and field visits dedicated to a range of grassland conservation management issues:
- Upland calcareous grassland workshop – dedicated to upland calcareous grassland conservation management, with a view to producing a working management document for UK upland calcareous grasslands.
- Lowland semi-natural grassland field visit – with a focus on conservation, restoration and connectivity.
