BFI Film Academy course at Edge Hill University open for applications

October 19, 2022

Aspiring filmmakers eager to develop their creative skills can sign up to a British Film Institute (BFI) Film Academy course.

The Institute for Creative Enterprise (ICE) at Edge Hill University has teamed up with FACT Liverpool to offer a hands-on BFI Film Academy course, perfect for young people with a passion for film.

Applications are now open for the 10-week course, which starts on Monday 14 November and costs just £25, with bursaries available for people needing financial assistance.

Under the guidance of film experts, the course builds knowledge and skills, supporting talented and committed young people on a pathway into the industry.

The BFI Film Academy is the perfect opportunity to explore taking the first steps into the creative industry and gain the BFI/Screen Skills NCFE ‘Preparing to Work in the Film Industry’ qualification.

The course is open to any UK resident aged 16-19 living in the Northwest of England who is not currently enrolled at university.

Professor Martin McQuillan, director of ICE, said: “ICE and FACT are dedicated to making film accessible to all, and applications are welcome from anyone no matter your background or previous experience.”

ICE has a proven track record of helping young people make their mark on the film industry.

Among recent success stories was a group of filmmakers who came through an innovative Kickstart scheme dubbed 21 Media.

They worked on Hamlet Within, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

21 Media was chosen for an award out of thousands of entries in the Innovative Employment and Support for Young People category of the Kickstart Awards

The Ferryman, a short film written and directed by a group of people on the 21 Media programme, was also screened at Oakville Film Festival in Ontario, Canada.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 28 October.
