The Cult Film
Critics and scholars have sometimes found it difficult to pin down what exactly a ‘cult film’ actually is. In this session we’ll begin to explore the notion of ‘cult cinema’ by considering the ‘cult’ film label and what types of films this may apply to.

Fake News: What is it and why it matters
This session explores a range of examples of ‘fake news,’ each from a different media source and with a different purpose, from television satire to news items, from movie promotions to tweets by Donald Trump.

We’ll ask what makes them ‘fake’ and why that’s important. Then we’ll work together on creating a campaign to promote media literacy for all.

Your taster session will focus on the creation and development of characters suitable for a drama based production.

You’ll be working alongside an experienced academic who will deliver a session created for our first year students so you can get a real feel for how you’ll be taught during your first year of study. You’ll also be introduced to industry recognised concepts used by screen writers and production teams in the realisation of major television projects.

Using these concepts, you’ll then get to work in small groups on a scenario, developing characters and producing an outline for a broadcast project tailored to a specific audience.
