If you have been asked to complete a DBS application as a condition of your offer, you will be asked to complete the application online.
You will be sent an email with instructions on how to complete the application, however the information below will guide you through the process.
Stage 1 – Online Application
If you already have a DBS check, click here to see whether you need to apply for a new one or not.
You will receive an email from “DBS Team” entitled DBS application: Post Office ID check. The email will include your login details and the link to the online application. When you click the link, you will be able to choose your own password. Please ensure it is memorable, as you may need to log back into the system later.
First of all, you will select at least three items of identification to be presented at Stage 2. You will then complete the application itself online and the system will guide you through the process.
At the end of the application, you will see an Application Summary. You will need to print this ready for the identification check at Stage 2.
Stage 2 – Identification Check
When you have completed the application, the final stage of the process is the Identity Check, which can be done at many Post Office locations across the country. The cost of this service is currently £11.
To check your nearest Post Office branch, please visit postoffice.co.uk/branchfinder1. Ensure that you click the Refine branch services option and select CRB & ID Verification Service before you search as not all Post Office branches offer the ID checking service. Please be careful to select the correct option as there are other similar services available.
IMPORTANT! Remember to take your printed Application Summary page with you. You also need to take the same identification documents that you selected on the online application with you. If you take different documents, the check will not go through.
Problems providing sufficient identification?
If you are unable to provide one of the core forms of ID (passport, driving licence, birth certificate) you may be asked to provide alterntative identification. This process may also involve an external ID check completed by Experian, through our online DBS application provider. A record of the search will be retained, but will not be visible to other parties or affect your credit record. Providing this check is passed your ID will then be processed and the application can continue.
If you are unable to produce the required documentation for the DBS check then we will have to begin the fingerprinting process, the costs of which would be covered by the applicant.
