About Us

Edge Hill University has an established reputation for widening participation. It is committed to extending opportunities to all those with the potential to benefit and achieve a better understanding of the impact of disadvantage, deprivation and cultural and physical diversity on recruitment to higher education.

The Widening Participation team provides a variety of service support activities for the University including access programmes, equivalency tests and links to the two regional Lifelong Learning Networks.

The Widening Participation Research Centre, directed by Professor Liz Thomas, is dedicated to undertaking research and related activity to supporting the development of learning opportunities for individuals and groups currently under-represented in post-compulsory education and training.

Edge Hill is also home to Action on Access, the national coordination team for widening participation.
