Mature Students
Many of our students do not arrive here straight from sixth form, choosing instead to return to education after raising a family, pursuing paid employment, or enjoying life experiences such as travelling abroad.
Anyone enrolling on an undergraduate programme who is aged 21 or over is considered a 'mature student'. Around 60% of current undergraduates in the UK fall into this category.
Most students returning to education surprise themselves with their strengths, often not just keeping up with younger students but surpassing them.
Whilst there may be differences in the needs and requirements of mature and younger students, a mutual respect exists across the Edge Hill community. The life skills, dedication and commitment that mature students bring with them are a great asset to university life.
These pages answer common questions about choosing a course and what it's like to be a mature student. We also look at how you can ensure an undergraduate programme fits in with your lifestyle, examine the cost of a degree, and outline the range of support available while you study to help you achieve your potential.
