Fees and Finance: Part-Time Conversion Degree Students 2012/13
Please note, this information is for prospective UK students joining part-time conversion programmes to honours degrees at Edge Hill University between September 2012 and August 2013.
Edge Hill University offers a number of part-time conversion programmes to honours degrees, allowing students to progress from a foundation degree (or equivalent) to an honours degree. Tuition fees for conversion degrees are determined by whether you are classed as a "new" or "continuing" student.
To be classed as a "continuing" student you must progress directly from a part-time foundation degree to a part-time conversion degree without a break from studying (disregarding any normal intervening vacation period between semesters). If you are unsure whether you will be classed as a "continuing" student, please email tuitionfees@edgehill.ac.uk for clarification.
Progressing directly from a part-time foundation degree?
If you are joining a part-time conversion degree directly from a part-time foundation degree, you will be classed as a "continuing" student providing you have not had a break from education since completion of the foundation degree (disregarding any normal intervening vacation period between semesters).
Tuition fees for continuing students on part-time conversion degrees in academic year 2012/13 are determined by your choice of course:
- Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Faculty of Education Conversion Degrees: £14 per credit - i.e. £140 per 10 credit module, £280 per 20 credit module, £420 per 30 credit module.
- Faculty of Health and Social Care Conversion Degrees: £19 per credit - i.e. £190 per 10 credit module, £380 per 20 credit module and £570 per 30 credit module.
You will study 120 credits in total to complete a conversion degree.
UK continuing students can apply for an annual fee grant worth up to £1,230, subject to income level and intensity of study, and may also be eligible for a means-tested grant of up to £265 for books, travel and other course-related expenditure.
Not progressing directly from a part-time foundation degree?
If you are joining a part-time conversion degree in academic year 2012/13 as a new student, have taken a break from education since completing a foundation degree (disregarding any normal intervening vacation period between semesters), or you studied a foundation degree on a full-time basis, the tuition fees for part-time study will be £75 per credit.
This means that for academic year 2012/13, part-time conversion degrees carry fees of £750 per 10 credit module, £1,500 per 20 credit module and £2,250 per 30 credit module for those not classed as "continuing" students. You will study 120 credits in total to complete a top-up degree.
However, eligible students will not have to pay upfront for their tuition. The cost of tuition will be paid by a loan which you will only start to repay once you have finished the course and are earning over £21,000pa.

Employer Support
You may want to consider talking to your employer about what help they can offer to support you in your studies. Some employers make a financial contribution to the tuition costs of a part-time higher education qualification. Employers can pay all or part of your part-time tuition fees upfront. You can then apply for the amount of loan you require to make up the balance. Please note, however, that employers cannot take out a Tuition Fee Loan on your behalf.
Previous Study
Please note, previous higher education study may limit your eligibility for funding. You cannot normally hold a qualification at the same or higher level than the one for which you intend to study and be eligible for funding.
EU Students
Tuition fees for EU students are the same amount as those for UK students.
If you are an EU national and you have been living in the European Economic Area (EEA) and/or Switzerland for three years before your course begins, you may be eligible for a tuition fee loan meaning the course does not have to be paid for upfront. You may also be eligible to apply for additional financial support, depending on your individual circumstances.
For further information on the financial support available to EU students, visit www.ukcisa.org.uk.
