Fees and Finance: UK & EU Full Time Foundation Degree Students 2012/13

Please note, this information is for prospective UK students joining full-time foundation degrees at Edge Hill University between September 2012 and August 2013.

Fees, Grants and Loans 2012 Entry

Eligible students will not have to pay up-front for their tuition. The cost of tuition will be paid by a loan which students will only start to repay once they have left their course and are earning over £21,000.

From Autumn 2012, Edge Hill University will charge £6,000 for full-time foundation degrees.

Full-time students who are studying a foundation degree can benefit from a range of financial support. (Please note the following figures have been issued by the Government and may be subject to change.)

No Upfront Costs

  • You don't have to pay for your course yourself upfront;
  • You can get a loan to cover the cost of your tuition, which you only start to pay back when you are earning over £21,000 a year.

Loans for Living Costs

  • Available to help with living costs such as food, accommodation and travel;
  • A loan of up to £5,500 will be available if you live away from home and study outside London (e.g. at Edge Hill University);
  • A loan of up to £4,375 will be available if you live with your parents.

Non-Repayable Grants

  • Available to help with living costs such as food, accommodation and travel;
  • If your household income is up to £25,000 you will be entitled to a full grant, of £3,250, which you won't have to pay back;
  • If your household income is between £25,000 and £42,600 you would be entitled to a grant of between £50 and £3,250, which you won't have to pay back.

Scholarships

Our Excellence Scholarship scheme can make a substantial financial difference to your student life. Most scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to full-time applicants who make Edge Hill their first choice by firmly accepting a place.

In 2012 we anticipate providing at least £100,000 in Excellence Scholarships, including competitive awards for Determination, Commitment and Achievement in:

  • Sporting Excellence
  • Excellence in Performing Arts
  • Creative Arts
  • Volunteering

We also offer High Achievers scholarships to entrants with outstanding A-level grades and will award in excess of £650,000 in academic year 2012/13 as part of the National Scholarship Programme, helping all students with the potential to succeed, regardless of their financial circumstances, to access the benefits of higher education.

Visit www.edgehill.ac.uk/scholarships for more information.

Care Leavers' Bursary

Care leavers on any full-time undergraduate programme are eligible for an additional bursary of £750 per annum.

Helena Kennedy Foundation Bursary

The University is also sponsoring four £1,500 bursaries for disadvantaged students through the Helena Kennedy Foundation. If you've suffered hardship, illness or challenging circumstances, for example extreme financial difficulty, bereavement, bullying, coping with dyslexia or a disability, you may be eligible for this award. For more information on the Helena Kennedy Foundation, visit www.hkf.org.uk.

FdSc Health and Social Care (Assistant Practitioner)

The above information does not apply to FdSc Health and Social Care (Assistant Practitioner) students. This programme is for health care assistants working in health and social care settings who are seconded by the Primary Care Trust. Tuition fees for students on this foundation degree will be paid, subject to service level agreement, by the Strategic Health Authority, NHS Northwest.

Previous Study

Please note, previous higher education study may limit your eligibility for funding. You cannot normally hold a qualification at the same or higher level than the one for which you intend to study and be eligible for funding.

Deferred Entry

Please note, for students deferring entry to Edge Hill University, the tuition fee and financial support arrangements applicable are those which prevail in the year of entry and not the time of an offer or acceptance of a place.

EU Students

Tuition fees for EU students are the same amount as those for UK students.

If you are an EU national and you have been living in the European Economic Area (EEA) and/or Switzerland for three years before your course begins, you are probably eligible for a tuition fee loan meaning the course does not have to be paid for upfront. You may also be eligible to apply for additional financial support, depending on your individual circumstances.

For further information on the financial support available to EU students, visit www.ukcisa.org.uk.
