Off Campus Experience
There's a variety of privately owned accommodation around the Ormskirk Campus and surrounding area. Our Accommodation Team offer a range of support services to help you find somewhere suitable, including a register of local student properties, house hunting workshops, practical advice and the chance to meet up with other students so you can househunt together.
Many students enjoy the extra independence renting off campus brings. You'll still be very much a part of University life and have a great choice of places ideal for studying and/or spending time with friends on campus. You'll have access to all the support services, IT and library resources, leisure facilities, catering outlets, launderette, social areas and activities - the only difference to our on-campus students is you won't be sleeping here!
Choosing Where to Live
Many students live in easy walking distance of the University whilst others choose Liverpool or nearby towns such as Southport.
Ormskirk itself offers a range of student housing, mostly shared houses. The Accommodation Team maintain a register of properties available to Edge Hill University students, which they aim to visit annually to assess against basic, minimum standards. A shuttle bus, Edge Link, operates between Ormskirk town centre and the University.
Towns such as Southport, Wigan and St Helens also have student accommodation and good public transport links. Liverpool has large stocks of student housing and offers an exciting city-based alternative. The centre of Liverpool is a 30-minute train journey away on Merseyrail.
Signing a Contract
You need to decide what you can afford to pay in rent before you start looking for properties. There's plenty of accommodation on offer so there's no need to take the first house you look at and you should never take a house without viewing it first.
Our Accommodation Team are happy to provide an advice and guidance service or check a contract before you sign it, but please be aware that the contractual agreement will be between you and the landlord - not Edge Hill University. We advise that you do not enter into a contractual agreement with property owners unless they are registered with us.
Any contract you sign with a private landlord is a legally binding document for a fixed term and you are financially liable for the rent for the whole term so make sure you're certain you want a property before committing yourself.
