Fellowship Scheme

Background

The Learning and Teaching Fellowship scheme is integral to Edge Hill’s approach to reward and recognition of excellence in teaching and learning support within the human Resources strategy. It is designed to:

  • Recognise and reward excellence in teaching for learning and learning support activity
  • Support the implementation of the institutional Learning and Teaching Strategy
  • Contribute to the enhancement of learning of students and other Colleagues at Edge Hill

To this end it will assist the achievement of the six inter-related key objectives in the current Learning and Teaching Strategy:

  • The provision of quality learning opportunities, and guidance and support for students/learners
  • Support for staff to engage in continuing professional development to enhance and improve their teaching and learning facilitation activities
  • The continued development and strengthening of learning support services and the learning infrastructure
  • The monitoring and evaluation of learning and teaching to identify, support and disseminate good practice within the institution and within the wider community
  • The provision of a focus for research and development into the potential offered by new technologies
  • Enhancement of student learning through ‘research-informed teaching’ in relation to the formal curriculum, academic practice, and the components of the broader student experience that impact upon learning.

It is expected that Fellows will demonstrate ongoing commitment to teaching and learning development within the context of institutional priorities.

This will be coupled with taking responsibility related to teaching and learningleadership within their Subject, Faculty, or Servicearea and at institutional level.

Overview of the Fellowship Scheme

Fellows and Associate Fellows contribute to the aims and objectives embodied within faculty and institutional learning and teaching strategies, and demonstrate their excellence in teaching and/or learning support, and scholarship.

The 2 Fellowship roles have very distinct purposes:

Scope of the Fellowship Role

Each Fellow is expected to follow self-defined lines of development and scholarly activity during their tenure. These will be specified in their application and will be related to the foci specified below and may include references to:

  • The institutional learning and teaching strategy, or information strategy/e-learning strategy
  • Faculty/Department/Learning Services teaching and learning/learning support development
  • An area/areas of interest germane to their individual teaching/learning support practice context

Associate Fellows will be encouraged to engage with developments alongside Fellows, aiming to enhance their own development and to provide an avenue for dissemination of ideas and approaches into their individual departments/areas.

Activity will be supported and monitored by the Dean of Teaching and Learning or his/her designates. There is an expectation that Fellows will support institutional staff development (including advising Associate Fellows) dissemination activities, identification of needs, design, and delivery and also engage with the activity of the Centre for Learning and Teaching Research.
