Claire Penketh- Learning and Teaching Fellowship Profile
Background
My current role includes teaching on the Postgraduate Certificate for Teaching and Learning in HE. I currently lead a module based on enhancing student learning via curriculum design. In addition to this my role involves facilitating a range of professional development opportunities for staff from across all areas of the university via the CLTR seminar series, symposia and conferences.
Academic & Research Interests
My PhD, based on a study of drawing and dyspraxia, engaged with key ideas regarding social definitions of disability and the ways in which learning and learners are constructed by concepts relating to diversity, inclusion and equity. The extent to which students participate in learning, forms the core of my research interests which include explorations of art and design pedagogy, curriculum design and the role of writing.
Fellowship Foci 2010-11
The focus of my fellowship will continue to be based on the role that writing can play in the learning process for tutors and students. More specifically I aim to continue to be informed of relevant resources and practices related to academic writing and to disseminate these in a range of ways including participatory seminars and wherever possible team teaching with tutors from across the disciplines. This work will be enhanced by the continuation of opportunities to meet with tutors from other institutions in order to share and enhance practice. Wherever possible materials that have been developed will be disseminated in order to share practice and provide concrete models. There will be an additional emphasis on the evaluation of students experiences of writing development strategies.
Other 'Academic' Information
I am currently joint co-editor for the International Journal of Art and Design Education (iJADE) and have reviewed for the International Journal of Inclusive Education.
