Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning Support
Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning Support provides the opportunity for staff involved in teaching and supporting student learning to engage in a programme that improves their professional practice. The course aims to:
- Enable participants to develop knowledge and skills that can be used in the process of teaching and supporting learning.
- Ensure that practice is informed by clear set of professional values.
- Enable participants to relate theory to practice.
- Promote reflective practice.
Modules
The course consists of three modules:
CPD4550 Teaching and Learning Support in Higher Education [20 credits]
This module provides an understanding of the relationship between theory and practice in teaching and learning.
CPD4551 Designing, Developing and Enhancing the Higher Education Student’s Experience [20 credits]
This module provides an understanding of the role of curriculum design, quality enhancement and widening participation in enhancing the student experience of higher education.
CPD4552 Enhancing Student Learning through Evidence-Informed Practice [20 credits]
This module covers topics that will enable participants to design and implement a small scale research project to inform their practice.
Organisation
The course commences in January each year and the taught element runs for one calendar year. There is a combination of face-to-face sessions and on-line support. Taught sessions run on a fortnightly basis (for more details see Programme for January 2011 [PDF]
Assessment is by coursework. This culminates in the submission of a practice-based research paper for CPD4552. This is submitted by June following completion of the taught component of the programme.
