Foundation Degrees FAQs: Employers
What will Foundation Degrees do for my business?
Foundation Degrees have been designed to be flexibly delivered allowing you to continue to operate whilst up-skilling your workforce leading to an improved competitive position with minimum disruption to your organisation.
How will I benefit once the learner has gained their qualification?
Foundation Degrees are designed to help tackle your higher level skills shortages and make sure that you stay ahead of the competition. Employers can expect to see improved productivity and efficiency through the motivation and retention of staff as they are the most important asset to the business.
Who pays what and when?
Employers could choose to support their employees by offering them financial assistance. Alternatively you may be able to get financial help from your Regional Development Agency or local Learning and Skills Council which provides grants for training and skills development.
Will my staff be required to take time off work to study?
This will depend on the sector and the nature of the job and work-based learning. Some of the learning will involve reflecting on everyday work. Programmes do require a certain amount of attendance at a university or college – perhaps a few hours a week or occasionally at weekends. Again, this investment needs to be seen in the context of efficiency gains.
