The Foundation Degree in Working with Vulnerable Adults provides opportunities for you to develop the skills and knowledge required to engage with individuals who, for reasons of health, ageing and dependence, require some level of health and social care.
Please note that the location of study for some modules may be at any one of our satellite centres.

2012 Entry Requirements
Typical offer is a minimum of 40 UCAS tariff points from one A level, or equivalent Level 3 qualification, in a related subject. Exceptionally, five GCSEs at grade C or above, or equivalent, will be accepted. Alternatively, you may be able to demonstrate your ability through accreditation of prior learning/experiential learning (APL/APEL).

Who is this course for?
This Foundation Degree is primarily for people employed in the health and social care sector, in organisations that provide services for those who are deemed to be vulnerable in society. It may also be of interest to those who are yet unsure of their future career progression, but would like to achieve a qualification that has generic qualities.
What will I gain from this programme?
In addition to entering higher education and experiencing university life, you will develop the knowledge and skills to equip you to competently support clients who are seen to be vulnerable.
How we will support you
You will have a personal tutor who will support you throughout the programme. A work-based learning facilitator will support your development in practice.
What will I study?
Modules undertaken will prepare you to work within health and social care settings and to develop the skills necessary to follow an academic programme. Year 1 consists of essentials for learning, social inclusion, rights, wrongs and legalities and Year 2 focuses on topics such as meeting challenges, management and leadership, and service provision and support.
Successful students will achieve 120 credits at Levels 4 and 5 (Foundation Degree).
How will I study?
A variety of methods, such as seminars, lectures, work-based learning and tutorials will be used to deliver this programme.
Who will be teaching me?
Partners from the Health and Social Care strand of Greater Merseyside and West Lancashire Lifelong Learning Network - a collaboration between universities and colleges in the region providing you with educational pathways that support your career development.
Your first year is spent at one of our partner further education colleges, with your second year being completed at Edge Hill's Ormskirk Campus.
How will I be assessed?
A variety of assessment techniques are used, ranging from written reports, assignments, portfolios of evidence and timed multi-choice question papers.
What are my career prospects?
This programme will provide you with the skills to work in a range of settings including nursing or residential homes, prisons, the probationary service and community centres.

Once you have successfully completed this Foundation Degree, you can progress on to the BSc (Hons) Working with Vulnerable Adults.

Fees and Finance
For academic year 2012/13, Edge Hill University will charge £6,000pa for full-time foundation degrees. Eligible students will not have to pay upfront for their tuition. The cost of tuition will be paid by a loan which you will only start to repay once you have finished the course and are earning over £21,000.
Eligible full-time students can also apply for a maintenance grant, subject to household income, and a non-means-tested loan to help with living costs.
Edge Hill University offers a range of scholarships for prospective full-time students. These include £2,000 Entrance Scholarships rewarding determination, commitment and achievement in creative arts, performing arts, sport and volunteering. Eligible entrants with outstanding grades are recognised through the £1,000 High Achievers Scholarship.
The University will also be offering awards, worth £3,000 in cash benefits and fee/accommodation waivers for academic year 2012/13, to eligible prospective full-time students through the National Scholarship Programme.
