To join this programme you should have 120 credits at level 5 in a relevant health and social care subject area or a portfolio of evidence that will support accreditation of prior educational learning.
You must be working in an area / environment that will enable achievement of the learning outcomes and assessment tasks.

Who is this course for?
This course is for practitioners working within a wide range of health settings who wish to build upon their own clinical experience as well as develop and exercise higher levels of decision making and critical judgment.
What will I gain from this programme?
This programme provides you with the opportunity to gain an extensive understanding of the challenges faced by public and community health services.
You will also develop an understanding of the research process in order to utilise research findings to inform your practice. The programme encourages you to question and challenge health issues and initiatives. Your knowledge base will be further supported through the academic development of research, analysis and evaluation skills.
How we will support you
At the outset you will have a pathway coordinator who will provide advice and support regarding your choice of modules and pathways and any subsequent changes that you wish to make during your studies as you progress on your pathway programme. The pathway coordinator will also act as your personal tutor.
What will I study?
There are two core modules on this programme, a research module and a dissertation module.
The research module will help you develop skills in specific aspects of research methodology and equip you to prepare a proposal to undertake a small scale piece of research. The emphasis throughout is on the practical application of research principles to ensure that practice is evidence based.
The dissertation module offers you, with the support of an academic supervisor, the opportunity to develop your ability to work independently on a sustained piece of work-based or work-related project.
In addition to the two core modules, you will select modules from the Faculty of Health and Social Care’s undergraduate professional development module portfolio, 40 credits of which must be from the Public and Community Health section.
How will I study?
A variety of methods will be used to deliver this programme, including online learning, seminars, lectures, work-based learning and tutorials.
The flexibility of the programme enables you to study at your own pace and develop your academic ability at a rate that suits you.
Who will be teaching me?
The teaching team are all research-active, highly experienced professionals with a range of backgrounds in health and social care.
How will I be assessed?
A variety of assessment techniques are used including written assignments, seminar presentations, examinations and portfolio development.
What are my career prospects?
Due to the flexibility of this programme and the wide range of modules available, you will be well-placed to either progress in your current role or consider a career change within the health and social care arena.
You will learn how to problem solve, apply relevant knowledge and skills, communicate information and reflect on your practice.
Professional Accreditation
It may be possible for any level 6 credits that are less than five years old to be used to make up part of the 120 credits required to complete this programme. Up to 60 credits can be transferred in total.

Fees and Finance
Fees for level 6 CPD health and social care modules are determined by each module being categorised as "standard" or "hi-tech". The cost of standard level 6 modules is £380 per 20 credit module and £570 per 30 credit module for academic year 2012/13. The fee for hi tech level 5 modules in academic year 2012/13 is £420 per 20 credit module and £630 per 30 credit module. 120 credits at level 6 are required to complete this BSc (Hons) degree.
