Who is this course for?
If you have the required IELTS score (6.0) to join a degree but would like to refresh your skills before embarking on the course, the 3-week pre-sessional English course is for you.
Alternatively, if you have an IELTS score of 5.5 and would like to improve that score to 6.0, our 6-week pre-sessional English course will be ideal, whereas if you have an IELTS score of 4.5 or 5.0, a 12-week pre-sessional English programme is available.
Pre-sessional programmes can also be tailored to your needs so please contact the Centre for International Education if your circumstances are different to the above.
What will I gain from this programme?
The aim of this programme is to enhance your English language skills in terms of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
How we will support you
You will be fully supported throughout the course by a team of academic and support staff who have considerable experience of helping international students enjoy and succeed in their studies.
What will I study?
The course will help you improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English whilst also enhancing your understanding of English grammar and punctuation.
English for specific academic purposes will also be studied, strengthening your fundamental English language skills in terms of subject specific academic requirements.
How will I study?
The programme is delivered through a mixture of lectures, tutorials, small group seminars and independent study.
Who will be teaching me?
You will be taught by a team of tutors who understand the needs of international students and are committed to supporting you at all times, aiming to make your studies both stimulating and enjoyable.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be through a combination of assignments, coursework and examinations. Your final assessment will be an IETLS examination.
What are my career prospects?
Successful completion of a pre-sessional course will allow entry onto an Edge Hill University degree programme (subject to availability and at module leader's discretion).

Fees and Finance
For academic year 2011/12, the 3 week pre-sessional course is free of charge, the 6 week course costs £1,380, and the 12 week course is £2,760.
Please contact the Centre for International Education for information on tuition fees for this programme in academic year 2012/13.

Modules
General English - helps you to improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing in English to enable you to achieve at least a pass grade on the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, IELTS 6.0 - 6.5, or equivalent.
English for Specific Academic Purposes - strengthens your fundamental English language skills in terms of subject specific academic requirements.
