If you wish to build upon your own experiences of leadership and management, develop skills in critical reflection, critical analysis and the application of theory to practice, and gain a deeper insight into your practice as a leader and manager, then this is the course for you.

Your management role may be formal or informal as regardless of job title you will have management responsibilities through the supervision of others.

You will also develop an understanding of the research process.

How we will support you

The programme leader will act as your personal tutor during the programme, offering both academic and pastoral support. This will include providing ongoing advice and support regarding your choice of modules, your progress and any other issues that may arise.

You will also have the support of individual module coordinators who will provide tutorials as well as a dissertation/advancing project supervisor.

What will I study?

This programme will introduce you to management, leadership and organisational theory in the context of health and social care and its critical application to practice. It will explore the skills, qualities and behaviours of effective managers, leaders and change agents and encourage the development of critically reflective skills. You will explore research methods and question the evidence-base behind practice and complete an independent enquiry or advancing practice project.

How will I study?

Modules will be delivered via face-to-face sessions, online through the University’s Virtual Learning Environment as well as through a blended approach, combining these two methods.

Attendance will generally be required once every 1-2 weeks in a three hour block. Specific dates, patterns and modes of delivery will be advised at initial meetings.

What are my career prospects?
