Details

Who is this course for?

The course is aimed at people who hold a degree qualification in a design and/or technology related subject but are deemed not to have sufficient depth or content for acceptance directly onto the one year PGCE Design and Technology course. Examples of courses include Stage Design, Illustration and other more general design courses. We are pleased to consider previous applicants to the PGCE Design and Technology programme to whom these circumstances apply.

Those candidates who are accepted onto the Design and Technology Enhancement Course will, having successfully completed the enhancement course, progress onto the Edge Hill University one-year full-time PGCE in Design and Technology leading to a recommendation for the award of Qualified Teacher Status.

How will I study?

This is a part-time course spread over one academic year. You will be expected to attend taught sessions. An initial session will include completing a subject audit to produce a profile of current knowledge, skills and understanding in line with the competences for Newly Qualified Teachers set out by DATA. You will then be expected to attend a maximum of one taught session per week, three hours in length, for the duration of the course. It is expected that the sessions will start at 6pm and finish at 9pm. You will also be expected to attend a one week course during the month of March and a Booster Course of your choice before commencing the full PGCE Design and Technology programme. There is also an expectation that you demonstrate your commitment by participating in self-directed home study.

Most sessions take place at Edge Hill University's Ormskirk campus but you may also spend time studying at one of our Partnership schools in the North West.

How will I be assessed?

A model of assessment meeting the aims and characteristics of the course will require you to provide a portfolio of evidence of achievement in a variety of learning outcomes and will lead to the identification of areas of design and technology needing further development during an ITT course and beyond. There will be no written examinations.
