Who is this course for?
Foundation Degrees appeal to people who may need to fit studying around their other commitments and for those who are looking to take their first step into higher education. The flexible locations and study times of this course make it ideal for people who may not have considered higher education before.
What will I gain from this programme?
You will develop the knowledge and skills essential to a career in business or management, alongside valuable industry experience. You will also gain exemption from some Chartered Institute of Marketing qualifications allowing you to enter the CIM programme at the Professional Diploma in Marketing level.
What will I study?
Work-based learning, project work and the development of personal skills, including creating a Personal Development Plan, are key features throughout the programme.
In Year 1 you will get an introduction to managing organisations, human resources and how to collect and interpret information in a business situation. You will also study how the business environment is changing and how organisations are reacting to that change. You will also gain valuable work experience on an industry placement and an insight into business enterprise.
Year 2 modules cover finance and accounting, marketing, decision-making and research methods, as well as how to manage people and resources. You will also undertake another work-based learning module.
How will I study?
Lectures, seminars, individual and group research projects, videos and online learning are supplemented with learning in the workplace. Students registered for the Institute of Leadership and Management qualifications will also have the benefit of a management residential.
Who will be teaching me?
The programme will be delivered by qualified and experienced staff at our partner institutions, supported by colleagues from Edge Hill Business School. Staff from across the institutions meet regularly to review progress and activities. This partnership helps ensure that you gain a genuine higher education experience.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by coursework and time constrained assignments. In preparation for your assessments you will need to use different methods of research using the workplace, expert professionals, tutors, library materials and the Internet.
What are my career prospects?
The Foundation Degree will equip you for a wide range of careers within the business and management industries including accountancy, business administration, public administration, marketing, human resources and small business management.
You can also progress to an honours degree in Business and Management Studies at Edge Hill University or a Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Diploma.
As a member of Edge Hill Business School, you will be encouraged to help contribute to its success during your time of study and beyond. We regard our students as ambassadors for the Business School throughout their career progression.
