Chinese Studies at Edge Hill University

Chinese writing

With British and European businesses identifying a major need for graduates who have at least a working knowledge of Mandarin, degrees combining Chinese and other subjects are increasingly sought-after qualifications.

Studying Chinese Studies as part of a degree at Edge Hill University will provide you with a working knowledge of oral Mandarin Chinese and familiarise you with the Chinese writing system, Chinese arts, business practices, institutions and media.

Edge Hill University offers degrees in:

  • BA (Hons) Chinese Studies and Business
Combining the study of Business with the language, culture and business institutions of China, this degree will develop the linguistic skills and cultural awareness to operate in China in parallel with the development of a range of business skills.

  • BA (Hons) English and Chinese Studies
Focusing on the two major global languages of the 21st century, this programme will appeal to people who wish to combine the study of English with the language, culture and business institutions of China.

The first year of each programme involves a study of Mandarin Chinese language and Chinese IT skills. You will also be introduced to modern China, its institutions, culture and society.

In years 2 and 3 you will acquire advanced Mandarin language skills, become familiar with Chinese institutions, media, print journalism, social organisation and economics, in addition to Chinese arts and literature.
