The Faculty of Education at Edge Hill University is one of the largest and most successful providers of education, training and research for the children’s workforce in the country. The Faculty has an outstanding reputation in both Initial Teacher Training and in Professional Development for the whole school workforce, an area in which we are the largest national provider.
In March 2011 the Faculty was judged to be outstanding by Ofsted in 33 aspects (out of 33 grading cells) across all three areas of its initial teacher training provision, namely Primary & Early Years, Secondary and Post-Compulsory Education and Training.
Staff within the Faculty are recognised nationally as being at the forefront of developments within their area of expertise. Their research and innovation impact significantly on programmes offered across the Faculty with the consequence that students experience outstanding models of teaching, learning and support. Edge Hill offers a unique experience that provides students with the ability to achieve a highly successful career working with young people and adults. Internal skill and expertise is complemented by an array of partnerships with schools, local authorities and other organisations across the country, strengthening the breadth and depth of experience we are able to offer our students. These partnerships have also strengthened our ability to successfully support students nationwide as they have resulted in the creation of outreach centres including locations in Lancashire, Cheshire East, Merseyside and the West Midlands.
The Faculty of Education provides Initial Teacher Training programmes in Early Years, Primary, Key Stage 2/3, Secondary Education and Post Compulsory Education.
The Faculty also has an extensive programme of Professional Development for the whole school workforce, including teachers at all stages in their careers, tutors in the post compulsory sector, teaching assistants and the wider school workforce.
The Faculty has developed unique partnership links with a number of local authorities and other providers to offer accreditation packages for professional development undertaken in a variety of contexts.
The work of the area is underpinned by a range of national research projects. As well as individual research and scholarship, staff are involved in collaborative projects across Edge Hill, with other Universities and with Local Authorities.
