Welcome to your future - Welcome to Edge Hill University!!
Edge Hill is a friendly, forward-looking University and we are delighted that you have chosen to join us.
As a new student you are about to begin a real adventure and you may find the first days and weeks a little daunting – but please remember that we were all new here once and survived – you will too!
This handbook is your easy-to-use reference guide to all the services open to you as a student at Edge Hill and we hope that it will help you to settle into your new way of life as quickly and easily as possible.
Whether you need guidance on finances, careers, counselling, health care, disability, study support etc, this handbook will tell you where to go to get the help you need.
If you’re a new student – Don’t Worry!
Throughout your studies at Edge Hill – always remember – you are not alone. If there is something you are not sure about – or if you can’t find what you’re looking for in the handbook – pop into the Student Information Centre or ring the Student Information Desk on 01695 584554 and the team will point you in the right direction.
As you get used to life here, talk to senior students – or to any member of staff if you need guidance, information or support.
All the support you need is here!
The Student Information Centre (or SIC) is your one-stop-shop for a variety of departments and services. Student Services, Inclusion Services, Academic Registry and Careers are all based here and you can make an appointment to see any member of staff via the Student Information Desk.
We aim to provide you with a comprehensive and easy-to-access support system to help you in your studies. Some support areas are obvious – others might surprise you, come and see us to find out more!
We have a Charter that tells you about the standards you can expect from us (your rights) and the commitments we need from you (your responsibilities). You can call into the SIC at any time to pick up a copy.
To make your Edge Hill experience the best it can be we need your commitment too!
Things you must tell us :
It is vital that you tell your Department and Academic Registry if you change:
- Your home or term address
- Your degree scheme or any modules or courses
Things you need to know : -
Make sure that you are aware of :
- All Academic Regulations for your course
- The Student Code of Behaviour and Disciplinary Procedures
- Your Health & Safety responsibilities
- Our Equality and Diversity Policy
- All departmental codes and practices
- The Terms of your Licence Agreement (resident students only)
If you have any questions on the above, contact your department, or call one of the Student Information Officers in the SIC on 01695 584554.
Help us to help you - get involved in Edge Hill University Life!
At Edge Hill we are proud of our tradition for encouraging students to take an active part in the work of the University. We have formally elected representatives on various boards – so if you have a particular interest or want to learn more about how Edge Hill operates, get involved!
Make a difference!
Edge Hill works as one big team and we welcome feedback from our students through the Staff / Student Partnership Group. As you go about campus you’ll doubtless come across suggestion boxes and questionnaires – remember we can’t change anything if we don’t have your views!
Stay informed - Keep a look out for notices around campus!
Finally, welcome again to Edge Hill. Over the coming years you will be challenged, inspired, and become part of the community of Edge Hill. I hope you thoroughly enjoy your time here and find it as rewarding an experience as the countless students who have already passed through this University.
Best wishes,
CHRISTINE COLEMAN
Director of Student Services
