The Health & Well-being Centre

The Health and Well-being Centre is located in Milton House, 41 Ruff Lane . Opening times are 8.30am - 5.00pm, Monday - Friday during term time for staff and students.

The Nurse is available 8.30am - 4.30pm, Monday – Friday during term time.

Please feel free to drop in for any health related issue and see Sister Janice Southern. No appointment is necessary and the service is completely confidential.

We can provide you with information on how to access advice on alcohol use, smoking cessation, contraception, emergency contraception and sexual health issues.

Students who live more than 7 miles from their usual GP are strongly advised to register with Edge Hill doctors or another doctor in the area for the duration of their studies.

The Edge Hill doctors hold 3 surgeries per week   on campus: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, as well as contraceptive advice on alternate Wednesdays.

The doctors have a practice in Ormskirk, which has been associated with Edge Hill since 1946, so are understanding to student needs.

  • Except Wednesday when closed 1.00pm - 3.00pm

Urgent cases will be seen the same day but not always by the doctor or nurse of your choice and you may be required to wait in a triage session.

The aim of the service is to provide comprehensive, quality health care, working as an accessible and approachable health care team within an efficient and caring environment.

How to Register:

As a student living away from home you are strongly advised to register with a local doctor. You should do this during your first two weeks at Edge Hill. It is not a good idea to leave it until you need to see a doctor as the registration process may delay your appointment.

You can call into the Health and Well-being Centre and fill in a registration form or alternatively register with the Elms practice online at www.theelmspractice.nhs.uk. There is a wealth of health related information available through this website.

If you need medical attention during vacation or weekends away from Edge Hill, you can see any GP as a temporary resident for a period of up to 12 weeks. You do not need to re-register with your own GP during vacation.
