Strategic Planning & Policy Unit (SPPU)
Founded in 1996 (formerly Policy Support & Information) the Strategic Planning & Policy Unit comprises 5 staff, and is led by the Director of Strategic Planning , Dr Craig Hutchinson-Howorth. The Unit is based on the Ormskirk campus and can be located in the SIC building (1st floor).
The Strategic Planning & Policy Unit supports Edge Hill University in a number of ways with regard to strategic planning. In fulfilling this role the Unit manages and produces a range of information including core statistics, calculated ratio/indicator and complex analyses for use in informing managerial decisions across the University.
The major aims and modus operandi of the Unit thus crystallise around:
- Centralised data presentation, analysis, description and prediction in relation to the current and future potential activities, including data for the Strategic Plan.
- Production, monitoring, validation and publication of quantitative information on the operation of University for internal consumption and external bodies. The Unit is responsible for making statutory return to HEFCE, HESA, TDA and SHA.
- Research and analysis utilising data in relation to the institutions mission and opportunities for development.
- Development of planning models and projections which, for example, explore the effect of student population dynamics.
- Ensuring that record systems are congruent with internal and external requirements.
Data Protection Act, Risk Management and Freedom of Information at Edge Hill University are also co-ordinated by the Strategic Planning & Policy Unit.
