Rhiannon Evans Poetry Scholarship
The Rhiannon Evans Poetry Scholarship has been designed to reward and celebrate students who display promise as creative writers. Rhiannon Evans was Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students and External) at Edge Hill University from 1994 to 2008. With a lifelong interest in, and connection with, poetry, Rhiannon founded this scholarship on her retirement.
Scholarship Amount
- £500 (all current students who are studying 60 credits or more in the current academic year are eligible to apply, excluding permanent employees of Edge Hill University).
Criteria
The poems you submit must be previously unpublished. The judging panel will be keen to discover:
- How you demonstrate that you have the potential for further development;
- How the scholarship would benefit and support your future writing career;
We will also take into account the demonstration of promise in the face of adversity, where you have demonstrated promise and talent in creative writing and had to overcome exceptional circumstances.
Please note that work submitted will not be returned.

The deadline for applying for a 2012/13 Rhiannon Evans Poetry Scholarship is Friday 1st June 2012.
The application form includes a Personal Statement where you can tell us about your achievements in poetry writing to date, your future plans and how a scholarship would benefit you.
We advise you to wait until the end of the academic year to submit your application so that you can document as many of your achievements as possible.
Successful Applicants
All applicants will receive notification of the outcome by mid-August.
If you are successful, you will receive your one-off payment of £500 at the Scholarships Presentation Evening in October.
